This session was for anyone living with pelvic girdle pain (PGP) that hasn’t resolved in the “normal” timeframe. Our attendees ranged from 6 months postpartum to decades on. Three of our team, all with lived experience of long-term PGP, share some guidance on longer term recovery.

What’s covered:

  • Sarah explains the anatomy of the pelvis and the joint mechanics behind PGP, debunking the common myth that it’s “just hormones” and nothing can be done
  • Claire answers the questions we hear most often in our support groups, covering pacing and avoiding “boom and bust” recovery, everyday habits that can aggravate PGP (carrying, pushchairs, sitting position), and lesser-known treatment options including internal manual therapy, prolotherapy, and steroid injections
  • Mel leads a short reflection exercise on the mental health impact of living with chronic pain, and how long-term pain can shape the way we see our bodies and abilities

If you’ve tried treatment before without success, this session makes the case for trying a different practitioner. Sometimes recovery comes down to finding the right person, not giving up on treatment altogether.
