Pelvic Partnership surveys

Each year the Pelvic Partnership undertakes an annual survey of women and birthing people with pregnancy-related pelvic girdle pain (PGP). These surveys enable us to get a better idea of the situation facing women with PGP, how their PGP affects them and their access to information and treatment.

Key findings of our 2024 survey report:

  • 41.1% currently experiencing pelvic girdle pain
  • Of those experiencing pelvic girdle pain, 40.5% had been experiencing pain for more than 12 months
  • Only 1 respondent (0.4%)  could walk normally without pain (down from 3% in 2023)
  • 27.1% need to use mobility aids such as crutches or a wheelchair to get around (up from 18% in 2023)
  • Pelvic girdle pain affected women’s ability to do key activities such as turning over in bed (94.8%), exercising (90.4%), being intimate with their partner (72.5%) and working (72.5%)
  • Only 18.4% of respondents felt supported by their GP or midwife (down very slightly from 19% in 2023)
  • 81.9% of respondents had not been offered hands-on treatment including manual therapy on the NHS (down from 86% in 2023)
  • 60.5% of respondents had experienced a problem with their mental health during or after pregnancy associated with their pelvic girdle pain (up from 57% in 2023)

Our survey findings are unfortunately not surprising and support our discussions with women with pelvic girdle pain on our support services. We will use this information to shape our ongoing policy and advocacy effort to improve care, support and treatment for women with pelvic girdle pain.
